Jewett, Thomas R.

Thomas Jewett died on February 17,2024. He was born in Canton, Ohio on May 5, 1941 to Muriel (Witmer) and Basil Jewett. He was the third of five children, two of whom pre-deceased him, his sister Patricia Jewett Crum, and his brother Gerald Jewett. He is survived by two sisters, Jude Ann Schario and Camille Santoro (Ray).

Tom came to Wilmington, Delaware in 1975 when he became Director of Family Services for Catholic Charities and served in that capacity until he retired in 2011. He loved that job and always considered it a privilege to serve those who came to him for his help. He also loved teaching and was an adjunct professor of philosophy and theology at Neumann University from 1975-2016.

Tom’s most important priority was his family who survive him, his wife of 48 years, Marynell (Stroh) Jewett; his children, Matt (Adrianne), Meg, and Chris (Whitney). He adored his grandchildren, Thomas, Landon, Mollie, and Eleanore and loved his many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Ray Santoro (Camille), the Stroh brothers, Tom (Karen), David (Joan), and Jerry, (Irene). Kevin (Maureen) pre-deceased him. Tom shared many happy times and outrageous stories with these men, all of whom kept his sense of humor sharp.

The Jewett family also shares an enormous sense of gratitude to dear neighbors, friends, and the caregivers of Heartland Hospice who have been with us every step of the way on this difficult journey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.

Contributions in his memory may be made to: The Sojourners Place (2901 Governor Printz Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19802) or IHM Outreach (4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803)
