Koenig, August "Gus"

August “Gus” Koenig, 71, of Clayton, Delaware, passed away on July 14, 2023. Gus was born on October 8, 1951, in Thurmont, Maryland, to his late father, August Jacob Koenig and mother, Isabella (Koenig) Politano.

He is survived by Nancy, his loving wife of 35 years. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Tigger and Molly. Gus was predeceased by his sister, Gail Paine and stepfather, Domenico Politano. Gus attended Teaneck High School in New Jersey and went on to serve an apprenticeship as a machinist tool and die maker. He worked on Trident submarines at Transamerica, served as the Superintendent of Maintenance at Phoenix Steel, held the position of Maintenance Manager at Mannington Mills, and was the Plant Manager at Toolwrights. Later in life, he became the co-owner of Capital Tire and Auto Services then finally the owner/operator of Koenig Lawn Maintenance Services. Many considered Gus a father figure.

He had a passion for mentoring the many employees who worked for him. He found great joy in sharing his knowledge and skills with others, along with his sense of humor. Gus could fix almost anything, often using creative alternatives. One never knew what to expect, but the results worked. He loved sitting on the back porch, renovated just in time for him to enjoy it, watching wildlife and the beautiful garden and lawn that he landscaped.

A memorial service in honor of Gus will be held at Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church, 15 E. Green Street, Middletown, Delaware, on Friday, July 28 at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception in the church hall. The service can be viewed on the church website: www.saintannes.church. Gus will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His dedication to his family, work, and his willingness to help others will be remembered fondly. May his soul rest in peace.
