LeFevre, Nancy K.

d. June 24, 2023

Born May 15, 1935 in Wilmington, DE to May Thompson and Thomas Muncy Keith, Nancy graduated in 1953 from Tower Hill School where her record of sixteen varsity letters awarded to one student is still unbroken.  She was inducted into the inaugural class of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021.  With the exception of her four years at Connecticut College in New London and the next three and a half years teaching at the Brimmer and May School in Chestnut Hill, MA and obtaining her M.Ed. at Boston University, Nancy was a Delaware resident her entire life.

Nancy married Edmund A LeFevre of Rochester, NY in 1962 when they both were teaching at The Tatnall School.  After his retirement in 1983, they traveled a great deal, particularly enjoying Road Scholar experiences both abroad and in the US.  Nancy’s love of genealogy took them on many excursions in New York state as well as to the Netherlands to research her husband’s ancestors.  Researching her own relatives, many of whom resided in the Dover area since the 1700’s, was equally rewarding.

Nancy served on the board of the Skating Club of Wilmington when her children skated there in the 1970’s.  During the next two decades she frequently sang with the Northern Delaware Oratorio Society.  For ten years she served as a volunteer on one of New Castle County’s Child Placement Review Boards, and she also volunteered in the elementary classroom of the former Alfred I. duPont Institute.

In 2011, Nancy became a 50 year member of the American Association of University Women, having served in numerous capacities, and received a Named Gift Award in 1987 when she and her husband chaired the annual AAUW Used Book Sale.  Nancy was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 45 years before rejoining her childhood church Grace United Methodist.  She was a member of the University and Whist Club, The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of DE, and the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in DE.

Nancy’s husband of 43 years predeceased her in 2006.  She is survived by her son Edmund A. (Ted) LeFevre, Jr. and his husband Keith L. Wiggs of Montclair, NJ and their twin sons Connor James Wiggs LeFevre and Thomas Taylor Wiggs LeFevre, and by her daughter Catherine Jane LeFevre and her sons Kinley Rigzin LeFevre-Trigg and Casey Thorn LeFevre-Trigg of San Anselmo, CA.
