Vernon E. Kershaw, age 89, died peacefully on June 23, 2023 with family members by his side. Vernon lived his entire life in Brandywine Hundred, North Wilmington, and he was extremely proud of his Delaware roots.
Vernon graduated from Alexis I. DuPont High School in 1952. In 1953 he started his own business, got married, and began his family, at the age of 19. He never slowed down until this spring when his health began to deteriorate. Vernon was well known for his large garden and many people purchased tomatoes, corn, string beans, lima beans, cucumbers, and squash from the vegetable stand at the end of his driveway.
Vernon was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nathalie, in 2019. Survivors include his daughter Robin and her partner Rob; daughter Nathalie – known to all as Sis – and her husband Marc; sister Carole; grandson Matthew and his wife Hannah; great-grandsons Quinn and Huck; nephew Ken; and his best friend, Dozer, his Jack Russell terrier.
The family would like to thank DaChan Medley and Tameka Dorsey for their compassionate care of Vernon during the final months of his life.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike at 10:00 a.m. Friends and family are welcome to offer condolences until the memorial service begins at 11:00. Burial will be immediately following the service at Lawncroft Cemetery.
