Hastings, Richard (Dick) M. Jr.

Richard M. Hastings Jr. (Dick) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 7th.

Born December 25, 1941, to Richard M. Hastings Sr. and Eleanor S. Hastings (Martine). He is survived by his wife, Carol E. Hastings of 55 years. His eldest daughter, Noelle Szczepanek (Stan), his youngest daughter, Tara Duffy (Mark Barczewcki) along with 2 granddaughters, Mikayla, and Keeley Duffy, and one grandson, Logan Szczepanek as well as his youngest brother Myron Hastings (Maryann) and brother-in-law Bill Taber. Dick is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Suzanne Taber.

Dick was a graduate from Salesianum High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 - 1966 and retired from the Naval Reserves in 1987. Dick worked for General Motors for 32 years before retiring in 2006. Dick was an avid tennis player, Hobie Cat sailor, gardener, and enjoyed cooking. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and traveling within the U.S. as well as abroad. His most favorite places to travel were out west exploring Wyoming, Montana, and various surrounding states. Dick enjoyed attending various events for his grandchildren which included track, basketball, football, baseball, dance recitals, and gymnastic performances.

Dick was dedicated to his faith in the Lord as well as being a member of New Castle United Methodist Church for the last 25 plus years.

Dick will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him.

A viewing will be held from 10:00-12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720 where a service will follow at 12:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
