McIntyre, Robert

Robert H. McIntyre, age 72, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Salisbury, Maryland to the late Norman R. and Kathryn P. McIntyre (Lewis). He graduated from James M. Bennett High School, Class of 1968; and thereafter attended Goldey-Beacom College where he met the love of his life, Margie. Following his time at Goldey, he served his country in the Army National Guard.

Bob McIntyre, most notably known as Bobby Mac, will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He lived his life doing what he loved, working on cars and building a successful auto sales and service business for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Newark Elks Lodge #2281, where he was a past president and served on many committees. The most fulfilling part of his Elks’ service was being able to assist veterans in need. He did that both through the Newark Elks Lodge and the Army of Hope, which he helped organize for his state association.

Bob was a kind, honest, loyal, compassionate, loving person, and a faithful friend to many. He loved his boat and spent many summers on the water in North East, MD with his family and boating buddies. He loved karaoke and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Notre Dame Football fan. His greatest joy in life was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret M. McIntyre (née Kelly); his son Rob McIntyre (Jessica) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; his daughter Kristin Winchell (Mark) of Wilmington, Delaware; his sister Deborah Booth (Scott), and most dear to his heart his five grandchildren, Maggie, Michael, Max, Julia, and Emmaline. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Norma Koehler.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 (overflow parking will be available at the adjacent Brandywine YMCA) and again on Friday morning, June 9, 2023 at 10:00 AM. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private.

At Bob’s request, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the MD DE DC Elks Army of Hope, in care of Jackie Phillips, 6181 Quaker Neck Rd, Chestertown, MD 21620.
