Suzanne Bea Heideman Carr, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2023, at the age of 74.
Suzanne was born on October 11, 1948 in her cherished hometown of Chattanooga, TN, as the oldest of three sisters. In her youth she was an avid member of Girl Scouts of America for 12 years. Suzanne attended East Ridge High School and after graduating, went on to continue her studies at Cleveland State Community College and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she met her future husband Edward Carr. Suzanne and Edward married in 1972 and relocated to his hometown of Wilmington, DE. They went on to have one child, their daughter Laura Michelle.
Suzanne spent many years volunteering with her local church’s senior citizens group, prior to beginning her career as a Paraprofessional in the Brandywine School District, where she retired from in 2012 after 22 years of dedicated service. In her free time, Suzanne enjoyed traveling, gardening, crafting, antiquing, genealogy, entertaining, cooking and spending time with her family, friends and pets.
Suzanne is survived by her husband of nearly 51 years, Edward Carr; her daughter Laura Lafferty (Steven); grandson Michael David Lafferty; step-granddaughter Maddie Lafferty (Matt Medaris); and sisters Lizabeth Hartley (John) and Debra Smith. She was predeceased by her parents Rex and Laurine Heideman; brother-in-law Richard “Rick” Smith; nephew Christopher Kelly Smith; and her beloved granddaughter Isabella Marie Lafferty.
Suzanne’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the inpatient Hospice Care staff at Wilmington Hospital, in appreciation of their kindness and compassionate care.
An opportunity to remember Suzanne will be available at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home at 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Monday, June 5, 2023.
