He is survived by 7 grandchildren: Sydney, Nathan, Sadie, Tanner, Mikaylee, Malina and RJ and his sister, Janet Mills. He is predeceased by his parents, Mark and Florence Koch, and brothers George and Richard Koch.

Carl was born and raised in Orefield, Pennsylvania and then resided in Delaware from the time he was 18. He graduated from Parkland High School in 1962, University of Delaware, BCE in 1966, and received his master and PhD in Environmental Engineering at University of Pennsylvania. He met the love of his life, Nancy Varady at UD and they married in 1966 after graduation. After retiring, they moved to Maris Grove Senior Living in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.

He worked as a civil engineer at General Electric, United Engineers and Constructors, and Greeley and Hansen. He was a partner at Greeley & Hansen and worked there for over 30 years.

Carl was devoted to his family and enjoyed taking family trips with them. After Covid hit, the family met on Zoom every Sunday to keep in contact. He enjoyed traveling and took many cruises. He visited all 50 states and almost every continent (was just a few miles away from Antarctica on a South America cruise). He enjoyed playing bridge with his wife and friends. He also liked gardening, including vegetables, herbs, and flowers. He particularly was interested in growing dahlias lately. He loved to play volleyball every chance he got. He played for many teams over the years and even competed in the Senior Olympics. When they had to stay home due to Covid, Carl started writing poetry. He wrote a book called the Pandemic Poet and sold it on Amazon and at Maris Grove. He continued to write more poems because he had so many stories to tell and enjoyed putting them into poetry that he wrote 2 more books.

On Saturday, May 6, visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a memorial service following at 10:30 a.m. in the Maris Grove Chapel, 200 Maris Grove Way Glen Mills, PA 19342. There will be a light luncheon served at the Blue Sky Restaurant at Maris Grove from 12 – 2:00 p.m. The burial will be held privately.
