Juanita Kavanagh (nee Russell) age 74 of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully on March 8th with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Margaret Battaglia and Roy Russell.
Juanita was born on May 25th 1948 and grew up in the city of Wilmington and graduated from P.S.DuPont School. Juanita began working at DART as a bus driver, driving mostly the city and surrounding suburbs routes for close to 20 years until her career ended sadly due to back issues.
Juanita was a people person, she loved meeting new people and going places. Juanita loved to travel internationally and locally. Every year since having her first grandchild she would take road trips to Florida and Walt Disney World with a car load of kids. She and her husband Jerry traveled all over the world going to places such as Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, Italy, England, Ireland etc.
Juanita is preceded in death by her late husband Gerald “Jerry/Kav” Kavanagh Jr., her late ex-husband Joseph Schorah and her brother Larry Russell (Anita).
Juanita is survived by her children Joseph Schorah (Christine), George Schorah (Lucy) and Dawn Owens (Neal). Her stepchildren, Gerald Kavanagh III (Ophelia), Paige O’Bara (Frank).
In addition she leaves behind her brothers and sisters Barbara Winnington (Peter), Ronald Russell (Robbi), Robert Russell (Cathy), Donald Russell (Evelyn), Margaret Battaglia, Robin Bennett (Roger), Jeff Russell, Ronda Harbuck (Kevin). Juanita also leaves behind many Grandchildren, nieces and nephews who all lovingly referred to her as Mommom or Aunt Sis.
Visitation for friends and family will take place on Sunday March 19 from 11:30-1:00 pm. with a service beginning at 1pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington 19808. The burial will be private for the family. To view the live stream at 12:45pm Sunday click here
