Bouchelle, Henry "Hank"

Henry “Hank” Bouchelle, of Newark, DE, died March 1, 2023 at the age of 73. Born in Wilmington, DE, and raised in Elkton, MD, he was the son of the late Henry E. W. Bouchelle, Jr. and Evelyn Bouchelle.

A graduate of Johns Hopkins and Wilmington Universities, he was a passionate lifelong educator who taught for over 35 years. He ran Colonial School District’s planetarium for more than 20 years and was also an adjunct professor of astronomy at the University of Delaware. He was deeply involved with the Delaware Astronomical Society and Mt. Cuba Astronomical Observatory for decades, serving as president of the former for many years. He had boundless curiosity and especially loved photography, model rocketry, all areas of science, and exploring nature around Acadia, Maine. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and stories with everyone.

He is survived by his children, Henry Bouchelle (Makiko) of Tokyo, Japan and Samuel Bouchelle (Jillian) of Silver Spring, MD; siblings, Jonathan Bouchelle (Lydia), Timothy Bouchelle (Heather), and Anne Graybeal (Clinton); and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by brothers Charles Bouchelle and Thomas Bouchelle.
