Nagle, Bernice E.

Bernice E. Nagle quietly went home to be with the Lord on February 25, 2023 at her daughter’s home.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Gilbert C. Nagle, Sr in 1993. She is survived by her three children, Gilbert C. Nagle, Jr., Cynthia Helker and Pamela Beatty, her grandchildren, Zachary, Nicole, Katie, Joshua, Elizabeth and Robby, 5 great-grandchildren and her beloved dog Molly.

Bette (Bernice) was born in Kutztown, PA in 1924, the youngest of her 8 siblings. She married Gilbert C. Nagle (Poss) in 1946 and moved to Delaware in 1950 to raise their three children. Bette loved to be surrounded by her family. First and foremost in her life was her love of God, her family and her church family. She prayer for all of us daily. She was “Gentle and Humble in Heart” (Matthew 11: 29 b). Besides being a homemaker, she worked as Assistant Manager at the DuPont cafeteria. She was an active member in North Baptist Church, for over 70 years. Bette was the president of the Women’s Missionary Society for 30+ years. At the age of 90 she still managed the church kitchen as well as helped to maintain the cleanliness of the church. Whatever was needed to be done, she was willing to do. She was a hard worker. She enjoyed the outdoors, planting flowers, vegetables, walking on the beach, sledding with the kids (even at 86). She enjoyed helping others. She had a special love to help and visit shut-ins and often took care of them in their homes. Another favorite was cooking and baking. She enjoyed sharing her homemade cookies and even donated those cookies to the USO for several years. After Thanksgiving she would have a big cookie bake with her grandchildren. And then there was the homemade grape jelly! Her dear friends would say “ When I grow up I want to be like Bette”. She will be missed.
