Meyer, Charles Stephen (Steve)

Charles Stephen (Steve) Meyer, age 78, of Hockessin, DE, passed peacefully at home on February 25, 2023.

Steve was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Charles and Erlyne Meyer. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati, and was a member of SAE fraternity. After college he worked for IBM. He then changed industries, moving his family from Cincinnati to Delaware in 1974, where he spent 14 years working for Batesville Casket Co. He worked in the funeral industry for several years, and then driving for Buker Limo and Limo Express.

His favorite hobby was golf. He was the Club Champ in 1977 at Pike Creek CC. He played at Cavaliers CC for many years, and Del Castle Golf course. He made many golfing friends over the years.

He loved sports of all kinds. He coached Little League and was very active in his children’s sports activities. He even owned a race horse at one time. Steve had a great sense of humor and there are millions of funny “Steve Meyer” stories out there that anyone who knew him could tell. The best part of him was that and he was very loyal to family and friends

Steve is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann of Hockessin, DE; daughter Jill (Geoffrey) Dawson of Newark, DE; son, Steve of Wilmington, DE; and son Rich (Darla Elsbernd) of Brooklyn, NY; sister, Leslie (Terry) Hoffman; granddaughter, Julia Dawson; cousin Charlie Meyer, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, James.

Our thanks to friends and neighbors, Helen Graham Cancer Center, Bayada Home Care and Bayada Hospice for all of their wonderful help throughout Steve’s illness.
