Deleski, Joseph Barry

Joseph Barry Deleski, age 68, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 24, 2023.

Barry was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel Deleski. He was born in Wilmington, DE and grew up in the community of Shipley Heights, where he made many life-long friends. His annual Christmas Eve party, when he made his famous meatballs and kielbasa and sauerkraut, was always a holiday highlight for friends and family.

Barry graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in 1969 and Brandywine High School in 1973, where was a two-year starter in basketball. He also played in the New Castle County Recreation League for many years.

Barry was a take-charge guy and throughout his life people looked to him for guidance and leadership. He worked for Levitz Furniture, the City of Wilmington – where he was a top aide for Mayor Daniel Frawley – the Town of Elsmere and Chester County Building Department.

He is survived by his brother Timothy and numerous other family members.

Services will be held on Monday, March 6, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. and a service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE.
