Myers, Randall Jarrell

Randall Jarrell Myers, age 53, passed away on February 7th at his home in Newark, DE. He was surrounded by his family after two years of battling ALS.

Randy was born in Felton, DE to William C. Myers Jr. and Barbara Ann Jarrell. He graduated from Lake Forest HS in 1987 and then went on to graduate from the University of Delaware in 1991with a degree in business.

After graduating, Randy remained in Newark and worked as a paramedic for New Castle County. He was active in the volunteer fire service in Delaware for the majority of his life, beginning his service with the Felton Community Fire Company as a teenager in 1986. He continued to serve in whichever community he was living up until his body would no longer let him. He always enjoyed caring for his homes and loved his big barn with a red roof and a John Deere tractor parked inside. In the last ten years, Randy began a business acquiring and renovating houses in Newark to serve as rentals for UD students.

Randy married Janice McCarthy of Claymont in 2000 and they had two children, Emily Rebecca Myers and Matthew Joseph Myers. Janice succumbed to cancer in 2016 while they were living in Smyrna, DE. Randy was a supportive and loving father to his two children for their entire lives but increased his efforts after their mother’s passing. He was able to find love again with Janice Boc and remarried in June 2018 and became a stepfather to her two children, Jason Boc and Kristen Boc. He loved his expanded family with all the chaos of four teenagers/young adults and three dogs. Janice cared for him dutifully and lovingly throughout this cruel disease; she never left his side.
