Charles “Charlie” Sullivan, 62, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2023.
Charlie graduated from Concord High School and was actively involved in wrestling. He began working in the hospitality business and later led a fulfilling career as a civil engineer. Furthering his education, he attended seven years of night school to obtain an associate’s degree in Civil Engineering from Delaware Technical Community College.
Always on the move, Charlie enjoyed keeping busy with projects and hobbies. He was immensely proud of building an addition on his home over twice its original size. He could be found watching and attending NASCAR races on the weekends. His activities included canoes, kayaks, and bikes while vacationing in the mountains or beaches. Finally, he revered his father and emulated him by cherishing his wife, Ginger, and supporting his daughter, MariAnne.
Charlie is preceded in death by his mother and father, Maryellen and Thomas A. Sullivan, his sister, Ellen Miller, and his brother, Thomas A. “Andy” Sullivan. He is survived by his devoted wife of forty years, Virginia Sullivan, daughter, MariAnne (Richard) Davis, sister, Kathryn (Robert) Procopio, mother-in-law, Judith Bonislawski, brother- and sister-in-laws, Jack Miller, Kim Sullivan, Nadeen (James) Gillespie, Bonnie (Richard) Lober, Francis “Jody” Byrne, Michael (Michele) Bonislawski, and John Bonislawski. Charlie was an engaging uncle to sixteen nieces and nephews and eight grandnieces and grandnephews. He also was called a friend by many, including William Iardella.
A memorial will be held at McCrery & Harra, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware on February 20th, 2023. Visitation begins at 10:00am followed by a service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (https://mssociety.donordrive.com/campaign/CharlesSullivan) honoring Charlie’s 24 years of fighting MS.
