Benash, Elaine L.

Elaine Louise Benash, 89, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Cherry Hill, N.J., died peacefully surrounded by family members on January 19, 2023

Elaine was the daughter of the late Frank and Esther Morris. Elaine was born and raised in Gloucester County and Cape May, N.J., and later moved to Lewes, DE to be close to family

With her husband, Richard John Benash, Elaine was the co-owner of Benash Liquor Store where she did all the bookkeeping/accounting. An avid bowler, for 40 years, Elaine was a member of the Cherry Hill bowling league. She spent her years creating joy through volunteering with March of Dimes, teaching and playing backgammon, attending each and every school and sporting event, cheering on the Phillies and the Eagles, and spending time with her 6 grandchildren. Though she had three daughters, she still was a proud member of the football booster club.

Elaine left this world the way she lived each day, surrounded by love. Her love for her family, her friends, and each and every neighbor will be remembered. Her love for Cape May and Rehoboth Beach was infectious, creating a tradition for generations to come. We will remember Elaine for the magic she brought into our lives. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and second mother to all of her children’s friends who needed her.

Her husband, Richard, preceded her in death. Elaine is survived by their 3 daughters, Dania Sargent, Dina Hollingsworth, and Daneen DiDomenico, and her sons-in-law Rick and Michael, her 6 grandchildren: Matthew and Jason Hollingsworth, Kyle Sargent, Brittany Margerum, Angela, and Michael DiDomenico and their partners in life, Julie, Gina, Nicole, Anthony, and Cole. Her legacy is continued with 8 great-grandchildren; Oaklen, Jackson, Chloe, Zoey, Calvin, Lilianna, Landon, and Laurel, along with her sister, Shirley Jackson of Fort Myers, Florida. It is through her love and dedication that her family continues to grow.

A celebration of life for Elaine will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 1st at the A. Felix du Pont Memorial House, 54 Oak Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be sent to; Camp Arrowhead, 35268 Homestead Way, Lewes, DE 19958. Funeral arrangements by McCrery & Harra, Wilmington, DE.
