Joan Mary Touhey of Wilmington DE aged 92 passed away on Wednesday January 4th surrounded by her family.
Joan graduated from St. Claire College in Clinton Iowa with a degree in elementary education. After graduation she taught primary school for two years. It was during this time that she met her future husband Bill. They were married in June of 1952 and moved to Delaware in 1954 when Bill accepted a job at DuPont.
Joan loved being a homemaker, maintaining an immaculate house and preparing delicious meals. Her greatest joy was her family. She was the matriarch of all family gatherings.
She was a member of the Junior Board at St. Francis hospital for many years and also participated in many different bridge clubs.
Joan was an avid Eagles fan and passionate about Notre Dame football. She never missed a game.
Joan was pre-deceased by her husband Bill in 2013 and her parents Ed and Gertrude Haas. She is survived by her daughter Chris Bouchard (Dan), her son Mike Touhey and her grandchildren Carly Bobowicz (Jason), Alison Bouchard (Erik), Laura Oswald (Tom), Jessica Touhey and Amanda Touhey-Price. She is also survived by five great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Sunrise Senior Living for their kindness and compassionate care while mom was a resident.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on January 10th at Immaculate Heart of Mary church, 4701 Weldin Rd. Wilmington. Visitation at the church will be 10:00-11:00 prior to mass. Burial will be private.
