Wilson, Richard R.

Richard R. Wilson, 81, of New Castle, DE, died peacefully on December 6 at Christiana Hospital. Richard was born in Wilmington to the late Frederick and Margaret (nee Savage) Wilson. He was the long-time proprietor of Wilson’s Radiator in New Castle and his shop was a hub of social activity. Active in adult and youth sports, Richard sponsored and coached local flag football and men’s softball teams. He will be remembered fondly by many in the community.

Richard is survived by his wife, Edith “Charlie” (nee Fowle), his daughters Deborah Stanish (Paul), Vicki Fischer (William), Jennifer Skripchuk (James) and stepdaughters Jennifer English and Susan Sarmiento. He is the grandfather of James, Douglas, Mary and Ava Stanish; James Skripchuk and Jacob Skripchuk; Liam and Mia Fischer; Anya, Karina and Alexander Pavloski; Jacinda English, Marquaysia Pitts, Emmanuel, Javier Sarmiento and Izabell Sarmiento. Great-grandfather of Journee Harrington.

One of eight children, he is the brother of Elizabeth Leolich and the late Frederick Wilson, Jr., Harold DuBois, Jr., William DuBois, Paul DuBois, Barbara Savage and James Wilson He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Richard loved spending time at the Delaware beaches where he had a vacation home for many years. He spent hours on his boat and blended his own seasonings for the crabs he would catch, steam and share with family and friends. His laughter and enthusiasm for a good time will be missed.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808 where a service will follow on Thursday, December 22nd at 11:30 a.m. with and additional viewing from 10:30-11:30.
