Gornik, Joseph

Joseph Edward Gornik of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Coral Springs Rehab and Healthcare Center. He was 72 years old. Joseph was born on November 12, 1949 in Chester, Pennsylvania, son of the late John Gornik and the late Sophie Gornik. He proudly served in the United States Marines Corps and worked for many years at AIG in Wilmington. Joseph was a graduate of Widener University. He was active in many sports, especially ice hockey for many years, coaching, playing and as an on-ice official. He was also active serving as an off-ice official at the old Spectrum Complex in Philadelphia.

Joseph was the beloved husband of Susan Ann Gornik, who he was married to for 44 and a half years. He was the loving father of Joshua P. Gornik. Brother to Teresa Bradley and her husband William Bradley, John Gornik and his late wife Mary Ellen. And brother-in-law to Debbie DiDio, Patrick Christmann and his wife Dorie, Timothy Christmann and his wife Ronnie, and Tracy Christmann. And uncle and great-uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his life celebration at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Service at 11:00 AM.

Interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear Delaware, on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Marines Toys for Tots, The Variety Club of the Delaware Valley, Wounded Warriors Project.
