Antonio M. Sun, M.D., 84, of Wilmington, Delaware died peacefully at his home on October 17th, 2022. He is the sixth of fifteen siblings born in Dumaguete City, Cebu, Philippines and is the son of the late Sun Eng Chioc and Lucia Martinez.

Tony completed his undergraduate studies at Silliman University and received his medical degree from Cebu Institute of Medicine. He performed his medical internship and surgical residency at the Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley, VA. Tony later settled at Salem Memorial Hospital in Salem, NJ, where he practiced general surgery for the remainder of his career. He held various roles within hospital leadership, including Chief of Staff. He ran his private practice out of Pennsville, NJ and was widely respected within the community.

Tony’s favorite pastime was tennis. He enjoyed countless matches with friends and colleagues on the local courts of Pennsville, Ocean City, and most recently at Dupont Country Club in Wilmington. He was fun loving and vivacious, social and energetic. Other pastimes included ballroom dancing, karaoke, and travel.

Above all, Tony loved connecting with his family and friends. Whether hosting large family reunions in the Philippines or grilling steaks at home, he often said that “food tastes better when in good company.” He loved our annual trips to Ocean City, NJ to spend beach and boardwalk time with his kids and grandkids.

Tony was also a proud pancreatic cancer survivor of over ten years. He recognized the gift of time and volunteered to support and inspire others impacted by cancer.
