William T. “Bill” or “Sarge” Lewis III, age 75, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2022. He was born and raised in Wilmington, DE and was the son of the late Florence M. (Connor) and William T. Lewis, Jr. He graduated from PS DuPont HS in 1965. Bill worked for the Dupont Company for 37 years at the Edge Moor Plant. He retired in 2003 as a Railcar Loader.
Bill proudly served his country in the Army Reserves for 27 years where he was an aviation mechanic, then a door gunner and lastly a crew chief. He enjoyed muscle car drag racing and spending time at the Jersey Shore.
His wife of 49 years, Patricia R. (Herrman) died in 2019. He is survived by his children, William T. “Bill” Lewis IV (Gina) and Melanie Lewis (Kevin); 2 siblings, Sr. Joan Lewis, SSJ and Richard Lewis and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 28 at 11:30 am at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington where a viewing will begin at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
