Schwind, Margaret B. (Peg)

Margaret B. (Peg) Schwind age 93 years of Brandywine Hundred passed away on October 8, 2022 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, following complications after sustaining a fractured arm.

Margaret was the oldest child of the late Benjamin Samuel Beach and Iris Beach (LeGrand). She was born in Sharptown, Maryland where she started school in a one room schoolhouse and was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. Soon after the start of World War II, the family left small town life behind and moved to Wilmington.

After completing her education, she was employed as a switchboard operator with Bell Telephone for a few years, then NVF Company for 30 years.

Margaret stayed home with her young children for 10 years, enjoying life as a full time homemaker. She was an excellent cook, no guest ever left hungry.

Margaret relished spending time with her grandson. She enjoyed the companionship of a dog most of her adult life. Her varied interests included needlecrafts, attending musicals, day trips, cardinals, word search puzzles, and keeping up with current events.

Margaret was married 25 years to Francis J. Schwind Sr, until his passing in 1977. She was predeceased by siblings M. Loraine Hickman, Janice Morgan and Thomas E. Beach. She is survived by her children, Francis J. Schwind Jr., Lisa M. Schwind, and grandson John C. Schwind. She is survived by siblings Nancy C. Hazen and Benjamin Beach (Barbara Beach), as well sister in law Joanne Beach and former sister in law Hilda Beach. Margaret made numerous close friends throughout her lifetime, all predeceased her except for her friend of 66 years, Jane Barker.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt 202 South of Silverside Road), Wilmington DE 19803 where a service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park. Additional parking will be available at the Brandywine YMCA rear parking area with a connecting path to the funeral home.
