Kathryn Jeannette Thomas, age 95, died Friday September 30th, 2022. She lead a very active life, working until the age of 93 at Gilpen Hall. She was also employed by Western Union, where she was the first female to deliver telegrams; Pusey and Jones, where she helped with ship building during WW II; Wilmington Dry Goods, and Knotts Inc. as a bus driver for over 20 yrs. Her hobbies included bike riding, bird watching, crafting—especially ceramics and jewelry, and gardening/creating fish ponds.
Jeannette is predeceased by her husband, Howard Thomas; daughters, Deborah Laskey and Davette Gaunt; and brother, Robert Nutter. She is survived by her daughters Kerry Elliott and Darlene (Michael) Kapa; sons, David Gaunt and Jesse Thomas; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and her sister, Karen Hyrcak.
A public viewing will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808) on October 5, 2022 from 10am-11am, followed by a service at 11. Burial will take place immediately after at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
