Lober, John C. "Jack"

John C “Jack” Lober, age 84, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on September 23, 2022, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born on January 15, 1938, in Boothwyn, PA. to the late George and Isabella Lober.

He graduated from Chichester High School in 1955, graduated from Dickson college in 1959, and received his master’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1973. He started teaching science/chemistry at Chichester High School and then moved to Delaware to teach at Hanby Middle School and then later at Concord High School for a total of over 30 years.

Jack had a passion for coaching at all levels from youth sports to high school, ranging from the track/field, football, baseball, and soccer. His career in coaching spanning over 50 years and 3 generations of the Lober family. He was involved in campus crusades, young life, the fellowship of Christian athletes, and volunteered at the Sunday Breakfast Mission. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and Brandywine Valley Baptist Church.

Pop loved many things; God, Peggy, family, friends, animals (except squirrels), the beach, body surfing, mountains-skiing, golf, bbq, fire pits. He also enjoyed poetry, travel, camping, fishing, woodworking, music, playing trumpet, Native American history, Western films, and his secret passion - pro soccer.

He was an avid Philly sports fan of the 4 for 4 + 1. Jack saw the Eagles win the 1960 championship at Franklin Field and finally 58 years later watch the Eagles win the Superbowl surrounded by his family with an epic Lober celebration. However, an even greater joy was spending his time alongside Peggy while cheering and supporting his grandchildren in their athletic and academic activities. Pop was known for his infectious smile. He was selfless, humble, kind, and never judged. He lived by these words, Forget About Me, I Love You, Family.

John is survived by his beloved wife Peggy; daughter, Julie Lober, grandsons Austin and Shane Oakes and son Richard Lober, his wife Bonnie, grandson Richie Lober, granddaughter Taylor Matthews husband Jake Matthews, and granddaughter Krysti Lober; brother George, wife Elaine, brother Richard, wife Dale and sister Dot Allen and husband Al “Clint” Allen.

A Celebration of life for Pop, Jack Lober to be held on Monday, October 3 at Brandywine Valley Baptist Church.7 Mt. Lebanon Rd. Wilmington 19803. Visitation will be from 9-10am with a service beginning at 10am. A luncheon will follow and is open to all.
