Beverly is the daughter of the late Edwin Elliott Butler and Elizabeth Jernigan Bizzell. She was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and lived with her parents and brother Edwin (deceased) in Clinton, North Carolina. Beverly attended public schools in Clinton and then graduated from Salem College in Winston Salem. She married William Benjamin Lane of Baltimore, Maryland on the 5th of August 1967. Their son, William Elliott Lane, lives with his wife, Katherine Tobin, in Boulder, Colorado. Beverly was a caring and loving mother and wife. She actively championed environmental and social justice causes. Beverly lived the baptismal vow to: Strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 Buck Road, Wilmington, Delaware at 11 AM on the 27th of August.
