Anderson, Sandra K.

No one can deny that Sandra Anderson loved life! She gave it her all whether playing a game of cribbage with her son or hiking in Yellowstone with family and friends. Sandy passed away at 85 in her Greenville, DE home on Thursday, June 22, 2022.

Sandy was born in San Diego CA and received a BA in Journalism from San Diego State University where she was the editor of the college paper. She attended graduate school at the University of Iowa in Journalism before she married and started a family. She created a successful typographic business with a friend and eventually became the Communications Director for The First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich CT. After her children were grown, she earned a Masters in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Religion and followed her calling to become the Christian Educator at Christ Church in Greenville, DE where she found a home and loving community of friends for over 25 years.

Sandy had so many interests and passions! She loved to knit, cook for her friends, sew just about anything – dresses, doll clothes, you name it, she could create it! She was fantastic with needle work and made many cherished items for her children, grandchildren and for her friends’ children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her volunteer work at Nemours Children’s Hospital gift shop and at the church reception desk and belonged to book groups, bible studies and who could forget the SOS (Slightly Older Singles) group! She travelled to, among other places, England, Ireland, France, and Russia, and enjoyed theater, museums, opera and ABBA.

After retiring, she worked for many summers in Yellowstone National Park where she befriended people from all walks of life who shared her love for the mountains and wilderness of Yellowstone.

Sandy will be greatly missed by her Christ Church family, her Yellowstone family and her children, Mary Mayo, Beth Karlin (Chris), and Stephen Anderson, her grandchildren Eamon Coy, Liam Coy (Juliette), Keyes Anderson, Josie Anderson and Lily Anderson and great grandchildren Andy Coy, Levi Coy, Jericho Coy and Assyria Coy.

Sandy’s memorial service will be held at Christ Church Christiana Hundred on August 13 at 1:00 pm. All friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Yellowstone Forever, PO Box 1857, Bozeman, MT, 59771(forever.yellowstone.org/give) or to Christ Church, Greenville, Delaware.
