Lengel, Quentin

Quentin Lengel passed away on June 29, 2022 surrounded by family.


Quent was born on April 5, 1933 in Pine Grove, PA. He grew up in the Pine Grove area and graduated from Pine Grove High School in 1951. He was his class president as well as a member of several great basketball teams. He went on to graduate from Gettysburg College as a Chemistry major and member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Following graduation, Quent sold insurance for a short period before embarking on a 42-year career with the DuPont Company. At DuPont Quent rose from a bench chemist to various management positions in the Automotive Finishes Division of the company. In 1958 he married Elizabeth (Betsy) Raysor. Quent’s DuPont career took Betsy and their three boys to stays in Matawan, NJ; Brussels; Belgium; Grand Blanc, MI; finally settling in Wilmington, DE in 1972. The four years the family lived in Europe were very special as they were able to experience many countries throughout the continent.


Quent was a lifelong fan of Philadelphia sports teams and loved March Madness. He was an avid cyclist, bowler, and hiker. He was a Little League and youth basketball coach at various times in his sons’ youth. Mostly, Quent loved seeing his sons’ and grandchildren play various sports and participate in plays and concerts.


Quent is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betsy, of West Grove, PA; their sons David (Kim) of Glen Mills, PA, Bob (Susie) of Birmingham AL, and Eric of Lincoln University, PA; six grandsons and a granddaughter; and his sisters Irene Stump of Allentown, PA and Lucille Kavanaugh of Concordville, PA.


Quentin was predeceased by a granddaughter Devon Lengel, brothers Reynold and Larry Lengel, and daughter-in-law Amy Michener Lengel.


A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 10 am at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1530 Foulk Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803. Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family at church beginning at 9 am. Interment will follow the service at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
