Lovell David Heckler, “Dave the Plant Man,” passed away to be with his savior on June 9, 2022, with his loved ones by his side, at the age of 66. A devout Christian, hardworking father, and owner and founder of Plants Ltd in Newark, DE, Dave will live in the hearts of people all over the world. We hope most of his jokes are laid to rest with him.
Dave was born to the late Marilyn M. Holloway and Lovell J. Heckler of Mahanoy City, PA, on August 22, 1955, in Wilmington, DE. Born and raised in northern Delaware, Dave founded Plants Ltd in1979.The business lives on today with his daughter, Mary. Dave had so much love to give, he married 3 times. First to Lynn Moss, then Angela Westerfer (Lamberth), with whom he had 4 children, and last, Lijia Zhang.
The joys in Dave’s life included hosting his annual Pig Roast, fishing, telling jokes, attending services at Shellburne Bible, and instructing the Junior Rifle Class at Delaware State Pistol club. He loved China and Chinese culture and made many friends in the Chinese community. His recent pastimes included taking things apart and forgetting how to put them back together and watching 90s movies on Netflix.
Dave is survived by his children, Sarahfaye Dolman (Heckler), Nathan L. Heckler, Rachel J. Heckler, and Mary A. Heckler; his grandchildren Noah, Gabriel, Jude, Juniper, Reilly, Tobias, Emmett, and Jasmine; his sister, Naomi R. Heckler; and his ex-wives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Debi Stocking, and his toy poodle, Nemo.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Saturday June 18, 2022 from12-1pmatShellburneBible Church at 4 Newark Union Rd, Wilmington DE, 19803, and services from1-2pm.
