John, Nancy Emogene

Nancy Emogene John, of Newark, DE, devoted wife, mother, best friend and care giver passed away on June 8, 2022. She was born in Mountain City, TN at Axlon Creek on April 19, 1934. She graduated: Unionville High School in Kennett Square, PA, Class of 1953. Throughout her work life Nancy has enjoyed working with and caring for the elderly as a nurses aide, physical therapy aide and home health aide.

Nancy met the love of her life on a blind date in the summer of 1952. She accepted William’s engagement ring and waited for him to return from the Army for four years. In her younger days, Nancy enjoyed hunting and shooting. She loved books and reading and would read multiple books at a time. She was always up for adventure and enjoyed traveling the country. She was a great seamstress and made quilts for her great grandchildren. Nancy loved her family fiercely. Even though she enjoyed travel, she was always grateful to come home to family.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Dora Belle Jenkins, father Clarence Eugene Morefield, brothers, Bobby Ray and Jack Dean Morefield and sister, Linda Carol.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William E John; her daughters, Carol A Cavender, Robin Lee Kenney (Chris), son William David John, grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher Kenney, Richard, Michael and Jenny Cavender and 5 great grandchildren.

In addition, Nancy is survived by her brother, Delmar Morefield (Doris), sisters, Terry Campbell and Barbara Forrester (Bobby), and many friends and church family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday June 17 at Calvary Baptist Church, 215 E Delaware Ave Newark, DE 19711 at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way New Castle, DE 19720.

Interment service for family only to be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Friday June17, 2022 at 11 AM.
