Mabel P. Emory, age 94, peacefully entered eternity on April 13, 2022. She was born and raised in Wilmington, DE, and resided with her daughter, Sandra, in Newark, DE for 38 years. In her last year, she lived with her daughter, Joyce, in Lewes, DE. Mabel attended Wilmington High School.
She was a bank teller at Colonial National Bank, a bookkeeper at Goldsborough Real Estate Company, co-owner of Emory’s Inc. Laundry and Dry Cleaning Business, and a bookkeeper at Chesapeake Bay Girl Scouts. In her spare time, Mabel most enjoyed spending time and making memories with her family, doing jigsaw puzzles, and playing the slots at Delaware Park.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Emory; parents, Arthur and Beatrice Porter; brothers, Arthur R. Porter, Jr. and Thomas N. Porter; sister, Emma R. Bove; and sons-in-law, Richard L. Margerison and John A. Skrobot, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra L. Margerison and Joyce Ann Skrobot; granddaughters, Jennifer L. Speakman (Brian Laws) and Nicole M. Skrobot; grandsons, Richard L. Margerison, Shawn M. Margerison (Andrea), and John A. Skrobot III (Katie); great-grandchildren, Jared L. Margerison, Charley R. Margerison, Sarah Margerison, Johnny Skrobot, Matthew Skrobot, Ace Speakman, and Sam Speakman; goddaughter, Kari Matthews; and niece, Eileen Cullen.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Mary Riggin, hospice nurse; Janice Brittingham, primary caregiver; and Phoebe and Reena, caregivers from Griswold Home Care, for the excellent care she received over the last 8 months. In addition, they would also like to thank Pat Hutchinson, Marie Smith, Grace Duval, and Shirley Thorpe, her niece, Jennifer, and nephews, Rich and Shawn Margerison, who cared for her when she lived at Sandra’s home in Newark.
A public visitation will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808) on April 20, 2022 from 11am-12pm, with a service immediately following. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to smiletrain.org or Accent Care Hospice (formerly Seasons Hospice).
