Whann, June

Eleanor June Whann, age 87, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at home and surrounded by her loving family. She wanted to be remembered as always treating everyone with respect, and she wished people would be kind to one another.

June was the daughter of the late Gerald H. and Bertha St. Clair. She was born on May 8, 1934 in Grassy Creek, North Carolina, and attended Aberdeen High School in Harford County, Maryland. She attended Goldey-Beacom College where she was the co-captain of the Women’s Basketball Team. After graduation, she worked at Goldey-Beacom College in the administrative offices, where she later retired. She enjoyed watching sports, reading, and was an avid gardener.

June was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronnie. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands; Susan Burkey, Julia and Carmon Ray, Janice and Michael Carter, and Tracey and Bill Firth; her brother, Gerald “Chuck” St. Clair and his wife, Carol; and her nine grandchildren, Jacob “Jake,” Emma and her husband Chris, Zachary, Caitlyn and her husband Dan, Domoni, Shelby, Eli, Dalton, and Thomas; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Shiloh, and Weston.

June’s daughters would like to thank the nurses and staff at Christiana Care/Seasons Hospice for their support and care during the past week. A very special thank you to Dr. Melissa Morgan-Gouveia of the Wilmington Adult Medicine Office of of Christiana Care, and Dr. James Ellison of the Swank Memory Care Center for the excellent medical care provided to June over the past several years.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 6-7pm at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE, 19808). There will be a service at the funeral home the following morning, March 30, at 11am. Burial will take place at Silverbrook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sunday Breakfast Mission.
