Jimison, Amy

(Obituary lovingly written by family)

Amy J. Jimison, 85, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed on March 3,2022 after a brief illness. She was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on June 18, 1936, to Robert and Amy (Enion) Prosser.

Amy attended Chester High School (CHS) where she enjoyed her art classes, cheerleading, and forming many lifelong friendships. While at CHS she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) C. Jimison. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary while at Sanibel Island, Florida. Amy and Bob have been blessed with two daughters and their husbands, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Her love of art flourished into the dried flower arrangement business, “Flowers By Amy”. She created wedding arrangements and sold holiday arrangements at the Brandywine River Museum. Amy later taught flower arranging classes at the Brandywine YMCA. This led to a 35-year career with the Brandywine Y—organizing art, dance, craft, baby sitting and other classes. She also led many bus trips to New York’s theater district. The Brandywine Y was her home and family away from home.

Amy enjoyed traveling with Bob. She also loved her time at the shore with family and friends, new and old. Their passion for travel kept them active in the lives of their children and grandchildren, with vacation trips, visits at college, and sideline cheering at soccer and hockey games.

Amy loved cooking for, and being with, her family for holidays. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, butterscotch thins, a raspberry JELL-O side dish and, of course, her morning special, creamed chipped beef on toast.

Amy is survived by her devoted husband, Bob Jimison; Daughters, Amy (Jay) McDermott and Judy (Ron) Chelli; Grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Rusk, Michael (Melanie) McDermott, Dan (Kristen) Chelli, and Chris (Kacie) Chelli, and 5 great-grandchildren, Lena, Anna, Ella, Mason, and Jaxon.

There will be a viewing for Amy on Wednesday, March 9, from 6-8 pm at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware 19803). The funeral service will be on Thursday, March 10, at 10:30am at St. David’s Episcopal Church (2320 Grubb Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19810).
