Virginia Mullin Boyer, 98 of Wilmington, DE died on January 22, 2022.
Virginia was born in Philadelphia on May 23, 1923 to William Joseph Mullin and Katherine DePagnier Greer, and was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ralph Joseph Boyer, Sr.
A 1941 graduate of Wilmington High School, Virginia worked for the Delaware Red Cross as an ambulance driver during WWII. After the war, she became a homemaker and lived a full life as a mother, grandmother and community volunteer.
Virginia had a passion for dancing and was a member of both the Circle Four Square Dance Club and the Delaware Diamond Dancers. She also loved to garden, read and travel. She was a long-time member of St. Matthew’s Parish in Woodcrest where she worked in the school library and volunteered with the Ministry of Caring at Emmanuel Dining Room.
Virginia is survived by her children: Virginia L. Sullivan (John) of Bethany Beach; CDR Ralph J. Boyer, Jr., USN (RET) (Susan) of Gig Harbor, WA; William J. Boyer (Andrea) of Haines City, FL; Beverly A. Schmitt (Edward) of Thornton, PA; Christopher J. Boyer of Elkton, MD; Richard W. Boyer (Joanne) of Bear; Robert J. Boyer (Susan) of Wilmington; Katherine B. Hanna of Newark; and Charles P. Boyer (Kathleen) of Bear; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 21 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 22 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery.
