Norma Marie Schulte von Brandt, age 80, left the confines of this earth on January 4, 2022.
Norma was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Marie (Seager) Schulte, and Ralph W. von Brandt. She is survived by her son and daughter–in–law, Kurt and Brooke von Brandt, and their six children, Ryan, Edge, Layton, Crew, Cash, and Nova von Brandt, also survived by her two sisters, Arlene and Linda Schulte, and many much-loved cousins.
Norma was raised in her beloved Rockland, DE, a mill town and a closely-knit community. Rockland was a small town, but we mostly knew each other on some level, if not by name. But everyone knew Norma! Her first paying job was delivering the daily paper.
Norma attended Alfred I. DuPont Elementary Middle School, Alexis I DuPont high school and successfully attained her degree from Goldey-Beacom College. Norma interned at the offices of W. W. Laird and was hired by them when she graduated from Goldey-Beacom She stayed for 20 years. Next, she began working for the Medical Dental Bureau, which Christiana Care purchased until her retirement in 2004.
Norma’s “friend family” richly enhanced her life. Since the first grade, her longtime friends include her dear friend Marion Oliphant Conforti; her Rockland friends, Evelyn and Dick Claveloux and Mena and Bob Shannon; her Red Hat and Canasta/dominos friends: Donna, Patsy, MaryAnn, Lovedy, and Shirley.
Norma loved cats and going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans with cousin Joette. Additionally, she loved cooking, family, basketball, NYC (respectfully the Naked Cowboy), the slots, Mickey Mantle, Bob Dylan, Matthew McConaughey, Clint Eastwood, and lastly, still, most of all, she loved life, and she lived it!
Services for Norma will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 11 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808). Friends and family may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park will immediately follow.
