Dorothy E. “Dottie” Meixell, age 79, died Thursday, December 23, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.
Dottie grew up on the Eastern Shore of MD and graduated from Chestertown High School. Dottie worked as a college librarian, waitress, cleaning lady, bank teller and co-owned a Gulf station in N. Wilmington for many years. She worked as an office manager for her son’s business, J.T. Hoover Concrete, for the last 20 years. She was an active member of Christ the Cornerstone Church where she found many great friends.
Dottie was a peaceful soul who loved all God’s creatures, especially cats, hummingbirds, and her dog, Daisy. She loved to crochet blankets and cross-stitch for her family and friends. Dottie will be remembered by her children as a mom who always made sure her kids were taken care of. She never missed a phone call and was always available to them for guidance. They will miss her great meals especially her pork chops and noodles, spaghetti and Christmas sugar cookies.
Dottie was predeceased by her son, David A. Hoover in 1988. She is survived by her children Tim Hoover (Deanna), Chris Hoover, and Lisa Schoenfeld (Brad); grandchildren J.T. Hoover Jr., Nicole Borowenski, Christine Hoover, Heather Hoover, Riley and Casey Shahan; love of her life Ed “Buzzy” Suloff; and siblings Bill Clark (Rosalyn), Tom Clark, and Jean Payne (Robert).
A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, January 5 at 10 am at Christ the Cornerstone Church, 6 N Clifton Ave., Wilmington, DE 19805, with a memorial service at 11 am. Interment will be private.
