Harold J. Heitmann, Jr., age 84, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 15th, 2021. Harold was born January 29th, 1937 in Paterson, NJ. He was the only child of the late Harold John Heitmann, Sr. and Helen Heitmann nee Hermann.

Harold completed his undergraduate degree from Farleigh Dickinson University. He served as a parole office right out of college before moving to Wilmington, DE in 1968 to serve as the Director of the Brandywine YMCA on Harvey Rd in Wilmington for several years.

Harold later enjoyed a successful career at John Hancock Life Insurance where he won many achievements and completed his CLU (Certified Life Underwriter).

Harold was an avid sports fan and possessed a great memory of the old Yankee and Red Sox baseball teams, Celtics in basketball, and the Army and Navy football teams of the 40’s 50’s and 60’s.

Harold was very active in supporting the University of Delaware football team, not only as a season ticket holder for nearly 50 years but also served as a past President and Executive Director of the Wilmington Touchdown Club.

Harold loved dendrology and the study of plants and always maintained a garden wherever he lived.

Harold was married twice and preceded in death by Judith Gail Heitmann, nee Mample in 2007 and Deborah P. Heitmann, nee Lambert.

Harold is survived by his six children, Harold E. age 59, David, age 57 and wife Barbara, Paul M. age 56 and wife Mary Ann, Christopher M. age 54 and wife Donna, Elizabeth A, age 51 and Frank age 43 and wife Brittany. Harold had 13 grandchildren (Paul) Danielle, Josh and Gina; (David) Matthew W., Taylor, Zoee and Lori; (Chris) Matthew; (Elizabeth) Michael and Samuel; (Frank) Gavin and Mia. Harold also had 5 great grandchildren Lilly, Elliott, Jacob, Kingston, and Vincent.

Services will be held on January 10th, 2022 at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. The family will receive friends and visitors at 10am, the service will begin at 11am. The funeral home requires masks be worn by all in attendance regardless of vaccination status.

Harold will later be interred at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, NJ with family.
