Roger Allen Brownback, age 77, entered peacefully into heaven from home, surrounded by his loving family on December 2nd, 2021.
Roger was born the day after Christmas 1943 to parents Doremus and Marguerite Brownback (Davenport) in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in nearby Aldan with his younger brothers Stuart and Tod. He was a graduate of Lansdowne-Aldan H.S. As a teenager, he met his future wife Jill Huefner, who he married right after graduating from University of Pennsylvania with a degree in chemical engineering. He began his long career with the DuPont Company in Pennsville, NJ and then Atlanta, GA before transferring to Aiken, S.C., where he and Jill happily raised their daughter Amy, made lifelong friends, and played at the Palmetto Golf Club.
An avid golfer, Roger was able to share the love of the game by bringing customers to watch The Masters golf tournament in Augusta, GA for over thirty years, even getting to play the course himself! The last Dupont transfer brought him back to Wilmington, DE. Roger loved sports of all kinds, from bowling to skiing the moguls down black diamond slopes. He loved his annual salmon fishing trip to the Miramichi River, and always returned with great fish stories. He and his grandchild Kathleen went on many birding road trip adventures, and he cherished their time together. He was a longtime active member of Chester Bethel United Methodist Church.
Roger was the beloved husband of wife Jill for 55 years, loving father to Amy (Brownback) O’Neil, and proud Pop-Pop to Kathleen O’Neil. He is also survived by brothers Stuart (Becky) Brownback and Tod (Cathy) Brownback, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his daughter Jenna Ann.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held in the spring, for his many dear friends & relatives.
The family would like to thank the staff at Seasons Hospice for the kind and compassionate care that allowed him to remain comfortably at home. To honor his memory, please consider a donation to Chester Bethel UMC, Forgotten Cats Inc., or to your favorite charity.
