Elizabeth J. “Betty” Charney, 84, of Wilmington, DE passed away on November 24,? 2021. Betty was a 1955 graduate of Edwardsville High School and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. Betty’s career took her to Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC and Foulk Manor North and South in Wilmington.
Betty was involved in every aspect of her children and grandchildren’s lives. She loved the beach, cooking, crafting, Broadway musicals, sports and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of Church of the Holy Child since 1974. Betty will be remembered for her quick witted, fun-loving vibrant personality.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Stanley J. and Elizabeth Gurka, and daughters, Sharon Holtzinger and Melissa Charney. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Joseph R. Charney with whom she shared all of life’s precious moments. Her children, Beth (Scott) Roberts and their children, Alexandra and Samantha; Joanne (Pat) Burke, and their children, Tyler, Justin and Lily; Joseph Charney; Michael (Deia) Charney and their children, Jessica, Stephanie and Michael; Stan (Lisa) Charney, and their children, Jayden, Mariana, Stanley, Alania and Marissa. Betty is also survived by her sisters, Helen Loretucci and Janice Gonda, and by Art Holtzinger, John Janowski and Valerie Whalen and many close friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday December 4, from 10-11am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd. Wilmington, 19810, Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to Church of the Holy Child in Betty’s memory.
