Vinod Mehra, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2021 at Foulk Manor North. Vinod was born in Lahore, India in 1935 and was the eldest of six children. He attended college at University of Bombay (now University of Mumbai) and obtained his Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering and worked for 3 years as an engineer in Bombay (Mumbai). He then immigrated to the United States in 1959 on a student visa and obtained his Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Northwestern University.
He met and married his wife Mechthild “Meena” in 1964 and moved to Wilmington. His entire career was as a chemical engineer at DuPont in Wilmington, working in the field of plastics.
He loved classical music, reading, going to the YMCA to swim laps and going for walks. When he was younger, he used to enjoy camping and hiking and traveling.
He is survived by his daughters Nisha Peeleman (Koen) and Ila Harris (Kevin), grandchildren Sara, Zoe, Samuel and Julia, two sisters Kanchan Kumar and Nutan Pall and several nieces and nephews. There will be a small private memorial service to celebrate his life.
