Delphine W. Ross, Bear, DE, passed away at home peacefully on September 10, 2021. She was born on January 8, 1937 to the late Paul & Josephine Wolf of Wilmington.
She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Nelson T. Ross, who passed away in January of this year. She is survived by her sister, Florence (Albin) Helms Gregg; sister-in-law, Agnes Brown; niece, Sherrill Mullenix; nephew, Scott Helms; great-nephew Shaun (Colleen) Mullenix; great-niece Jessica (Charles) Woodward; great-nephew Robert Helms; great-great-nieces, Ciara, Hailey and Audrey; and great-great nephew, Caleb.
She was raised in Wilmington where she graduated from PS DuPont High School in 1955. She then worked at Hercules Corporation until she retired after more than 25 years as an administrative assistant. She also worked as a credit analyst at Whirlpool Financial for many years until she retired.
As a lifetime member of Union United Methodist Church, she was a member of their choir and frequently would sing solos at the church services, as well as many weddings and funerals. She was also very active in the church, helping with spiritual ministry, helping with the prayer chain, assisting those in need through the benevolent fund.
Although she was not as avid of a sports fan as her husband Nelson, she would end up watching a Phillies game with him or listening to the UD games on the radio. But her real joy was her family and friends. Deli was the one that would reach out to all the relatives to keep up on the family news.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 21st at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, located at 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. Visitation from 2:30-3pm followed by the service at 3pm. Burial will be at Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Union United Methodist Church, 345 School Bell Road, Bear, DE 19701, or Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
