Edward John Hastings, age 93 of Bear, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday September 8th 2021. During his younger years he enjoyed music, participating with musical groups who performed at Sunset Park, and then with the gospel group “The Harmonaires”, along with his wife Bea. They also enjoyed traveling together, and with friends and family over the 55 years they were married.
Ed and Bea owned and operated Hastings Self-Service Market in Kirkwood, Delaware as well as worked for the United States Postal Service, also located in the store. He retired after 50 years of service.
Ed was a member of Immanuel Church in Wilmington, Delaware for 62 years where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and was active in the choir. He took the Lord’s calling to evangelize to heart, presenting his faith in Jesus where ever he went and to everyone he met.
He is preceded in death by his wife Beatrice, parents William L and Sadie Hastings and sister Doris, as well as 2 step daughters, and 2 step sons. He is survived by his daughter Linda H Nichol (James) of Quarryville, Pa; brother Richard M Hastings (Virginia) of Kirkwood, De; 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday September 16th at McCrery and Harra Funeral Homes, located at 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington. Visitation from 10-11am followed by the service at 11am. Burial in Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Church.
