Zumar, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Zumar, age 71, of Wilmington, Delaware died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021 after a long battle with Huntington’s Disease.

Betsy grew up in Indiana and was a graduate of Garfield High School. After attending Indiana State University, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe Zumar and moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee for a short period. They eventually settled in Wilmington, Delaware, where they raised their son, Blane. She was very involved in the Parent Teacher Association and the Wilmington Flower Market, a volunteer fundraising organization dedicated to improving the lives of Delaware’s children. Betsy enjoyed cheering on Blane at the many sporting events he participated in while growing up. A big fan of her son, she could always be seen sporting her University of Delaware clothing in support of his alma mater. Betsy loved going to Longwood Gardens and always appreciated the Christmas lights and displays. She enjoyed spending her summers at the local pool with her family. Over the years, Betsy loved and cared for her many pets, including a dog and several cats.

Betsy is survived by her husband, Joe; son Blane (Kristin), of New Castle; brother, John (Carol), of Mesa, Arizona; step granddaughter, Kaylyn (David) of Dover; and 2 nieces and 5 nephews.

A memorial service will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home located at 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE,19803 on September 9th at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m.
