New Castle – Anna Marie Grussemeyer (nee Freitag), age 81, of New Castle, DE, departed this life to be with the Lord, Tuesday August 17, 2021. Anne, as she was known, was a member of the Church of the Nativity. She was a lay reader, participated in vestry, choir, study groups, spent countless hours at the church’s thrift shop, baked hundreds of cookies each year for the annual cookie walk. Anne shared a wide circle of friends and family with her husband Joseph and their life together was rich with social engagement. Anne was number 7 of 10 children and graduated from Bishop Neumann Business school in 1957. She began her career at the Arthur H. Thomas company and continued working the next 50+ years in various jobs and roles before retiring from Brosius-Eliason in New Castle at the age of 67. Cruising with friends and family was a favorite retirement activity. She had gone on 27 cruises. Add one more now for the eternal cruise she just departed upon.
Anna was predeceased by her husbands, Joseph (2019) and John (1961), parents, Joseph and Frieda Freitag (nee Siegel), siblings, Joseph, Albert, Marie, Anna 1, Edward, William, Joan, daughter-in-law, Susan Campbell. Anna is survived by sister Helen, brother Robert (wife Ellie), children, John (wife Anette), Michael, Theresa, Robert (wife Dana), granddaughters, Stefanie and Sophia, stepchildren, Joseph (wife Tina), Kathy (husband Jerry and children, Jerry, Laura), many nieces, nephews.
A memorial service is being planned.
