Ruth N. Jester, of Kennett Square, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE, was called from this life on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at the age of 82. She was the daughter of Joseph K. Jester and Ruth M. Coleman. She is survived by her son, Joseph V. Jester and his wife, Roseann; sister, Elizabeth Dilks; and nieces and nephews, Roberta Lombardi, John Dilks, Jr. (Valerie), Joseph Smith (Amy), Kristin Jumper (Jay), Amber Davis (Joe), Kelly Thompson (Mark), Matthew Lombardi, Chloe Davis, and Margeaux Thompson. She is predeceased by her brother, Joseph K. Jester, Jr; sister, Effie DiGerlano; brother-in-law, John Dilks, Sr.; nephew, Joseph ‘Kenny’ Jester; and niece Carolann DiGerlano.
Ruth graduated from Wilmington HS in 1957, and retired from Astra-Zeneca in 2002. She was an avid Nascar fan who cheered for Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick week after week. She enjoyed listening to country music, crocheting, and visiting weekly with her sister, Elizabeth. Ruth and her niece, Carolann, could always be found together frequenting their favorite restaurants both near and far, shopping, or taking ‘road trips’. One of her greatest passions was taking pictures to commemorate time spent with family and friends. She was always willing to help others in any way she could.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 6 from 10-11 am, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, where a funeral service will follow at 11 am. Burial will be at Lombardy Cemetery, Wilmington. Please wear a mask and be mindful of social distancing.
