Jennifer “Jenny” Charkow, 33, died unexpectedly July 19, 2021, after losing a long battle with addiction.
Jenny never did anything halfway. She was a standout athlete in volleyball and basketball and swam competitively for many years for the BRY Swim Team. Jenny was a caring and sensitive soul but a fierce warrior when anyone she loved was hurt or threatened. Despite her struggles with addiction, she never stopped trying to be a better person. She attended Del Tech and was only one semester short of her A.A. degree in Human Services. Her goal was to be a social worker to help others. She celebrated her 3rd sober birthday in March, 2020, but unfortunately, relapsed earlier this year.
Jenny leaves behind the most important person in her life, her daughter, Amaya. Her family never doubted her love for her daughter and believe that loving Amaya helped her stay in recovery for many years. She also leaves behind her parents, Doug and Candy Charkow; brothers, Shane Charkow (Beth Ward) and Brian Pisano (Linda); and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jenny’s most cherished memories were big family vacations with as much family gathered together as possible.
Family and friends are welcome at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE) on Monday, July 26, where a visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 followed by a memorial service at 2:30.
