Thomas “Tom” Maahs passed away on July 16, 2021 at the age of 78.He was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges, with the same sarcastic humor that made him so unique. Despite the pain, Dad continued to care for his loving wife.
He was born to Arletta and Irvin Maahs on September 21, 1942.After graduating from the school of hard knocks at a young age, Tom started framing houses that would become his own roof at times, while growing from a carpenter to a homebuilder throughout the Delaware Valley.
Tom married the love of his life Linda Whiteman in 1980, while also becoming Dad to Ali and Michael. Tom is further survived by his grandchildren Jordan, Leah, Alexandra, Reece and Samantha, his sisters Dawn and Dale, and brothers Fred, Charles and Dennis, and many nieces and nephews. Tom is now reunited with Mother, Poppa, sister Arletta and brothers Irvin, Wes and Joey.
Tom built a life doting over his “Honey” Linda, storytelling with friends, building houses, enjoying pasta, and tending to the yard.
The family will be hosting a viewing for family and friends at 9:30am July 22 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pk., Wilmington, DE followed by a service at 11am. Burial will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
