J. Walter “Walt” Johnson, Jr. passed away on July 3, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Walt served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed with Diamond State Telephone/Verizon before retiring with 43 years of service.
Walt was an avid fisherman, having made many rods over the years. He was a NASCAR fan, loved the “Old” country music, but more than anything, Walt was especially fond of his beloved granddaughter Nikki. He loved watching her play softball and would never miss a game.
Walt is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Johnson; his son, Mark D. Johnson, his daughter, Karen Elliott and her husband Steven and Walt’s granddaughter Nikki and his brother William S. Johnson.
A viewing will be held on Friday July 9, from 6-8 pm at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, DE 19808. The committal service will be on Friday July 23 at 10 am at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd. Bear, DE 19701.
