Trask, Catherine B.

Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach-Catherine (Cay) Beattie Trask of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away in her sleep on Sunday June 27, 2021, at the age of 98.

She was born March 6, 1923 in Washington, DC and spent most of her early life in Virginia. She graduated from Duke University in 1944 with a degree in Economics and was a Blue Devils fan for the rest of her long life. After graduation, she worked as a Corporate Trust Administrator for the Guaranty Trust Company in New York City.

Cay married James H. Trask on April 7, 1951 after meeting him in Rehoboth Beach. They then settled in Wilmington. Jim predeceased her after 61 years of marriage. She is survived by her seven children, James H., Jr. (Frances Hammond), William S. (Karen), Thomas B. (Jean), Richard F., Linda E. (Edward Broadbelt), Theresa A. Quaintance (Douglas), and Patricia M. Peacock (R. Scott); fifteen grandchildren, Alexandra Schwerin, Elizabeth, Christopher, Andrew Robinson, Simon, Jen, Lauren Breedlove, Amelia, Joseph, Ian, Julia, Alexander Broadbelt, Robert Quaintance, Daniel Quaintance, Eric Peacock; and five great grandchildren.

Cay loved traveling, gardening, cheering on the Phillies, and spending time with her large family. A lifelong volunteer, she touched many lives. Cay was active in the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, the Delaware Nature Society, the New Castle County Library Board, the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs, the Delaware Center for Horticulture, was a founding member of the Garden Gate Garden Club, and was active in her church’s Social and Outreach ministries.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, July 3rd at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery following the mass.
