Pena, Carlos

Carlos Pena, M.D., age 90, of Wilmington passed away June 8, 2021 following a brief illness. Carlos was born August 4, 1930 in Lugo, Galicia, Spain. After receiving his initial medical training as a urologist at the University of Madrid, he emigrated first to Canada and then the United States. While in Canada, he received further training as a radiologist, and while working at Winnipeg General Hospital met his wife, Ruby, who was a nurse there. Carlos and Ruby eventually moved to Delaware where Carlos spent many years in practice as a radiologist, first at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, then at Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals from which he retired in 2010. Carlos was an avid tennis player in his earlier days, and later in life spent many hours reading novels and relaxing on the beach, and jogging and biking on the boardwalk, in Ocean City, New Jersey,

Carlos is survived by his son, Miguel, and grandchildren, Jacob (17) and Joshua (14). He is also survived by a niece, Carmen, and a nephew, Ignacio, both of Lugo, Galicia. He was predeceased by his wife Ruby in 2008 and his sister, Marujina, in 2020.

A funeral service will be held at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Rd, Wilmington, DE 19807 at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 21, 2021. Masks are required indoors. Interment will follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, 10 Old Church Rd, Wilmington, DE 19807.
