Patricia (Pat) J. List, age 76, of Wilmington, Delaware (formerly of Pittsburgh, PA) passed away peacefully on May 7, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Susan (David) Hauske and Mary (Joe) Rosen, and six grandchildren, Justin, Jared, Sara, Katelyn, Amanda and Megan. She is predeceased by her parents, Mary and William Cummings, and her “sister” Carolyn Watts.
Pat was well known in her community and always ready to lend a helping hand. A former college basketball player at Thiel College, Pat had many career paths including teacher, administrative assistant, and typesetter. She is probably best known to most as “Miss Pat,” the beloved swim teacher and aquatic director from the Brandywine YMCA. Her most important role, however, was that of a devoted mother, as she was determined to raise two self-sufficient daughters. The role she loved best was being a grandmother, and she ultimately found joy in serving as a “granny nanny” to three of her granddaughters.
Pat was a tremendously giving and selfless person. She thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the beach watching the waves, especially while vacationing with her family in the Outer Banks. She was a woman of many hidden talents, including cake decorating, puzzle solving, sewing and gardening. She was frequently seen cheering on her grandchildren at sporting events. Her true talent was caring for others and making sure her loved ones were happy. As a dear friend or a second mom, she touched the lives of many people and truly can never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 21 at 11 am at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends are invited to call after 9:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Pat’s name to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, PO Box 98018, Washington, DC 20090-8018.
Always Loved, Forever Missed, Never Forgotten
